Over 25 new paintings and drawings by Barry Fitzgerald, well-known illustrator and educator are featured in this special exhibition, the artist's first solo in over 20 years.
Barry Fitzgerald has received over 100 national and international awards for his work, including the Society of Illustrators of NY, Society of Illustrators of LA, 3X3 Magazine, Creative Quarterly, and Print Magazine.
He was recently selected to be included in ‘200 Best Illustrators Worldwide’, published by Lürzer’s Archive.
His images have been in over 60 juried and invitational exhibitions, including shows in New York, Los Angeles, and London.
His clients include The New York Times, Playboy Jazz Festival, Vagrant Records, and McGraw-Hill Publishing. He is also an Associate Professor of Illustration at the University of Kansas.
“As an illustrator, my goal with client-based work is to solve their visual problems while satisfying my artistic interests”, states Fitzgerald. “With personal and gallery work, specific goals can vary, but generally it is about exploration and discovery through the process of image making”.
“I like working with shape, line, and texture with a bent towards simplicity”, Fitzgerald continues. “I try to tap into my subconscious for subject matter. When the work is all done, then I figure out what it might mean. I came up with the title CONNECTING THE DOTS because that’s what I am trying to do. When I reflect on this work, I’m trying to find the connections within the works”.
The exhibition is made up of a number of mini-series. The collection explores subject matter ranging from landscape and nature, to life and death juxtapositions, as well as whimsical observations of the minutia of life. |
